History Of Godfrey Pontoon Boats

The Godfrey Conveyor Company was founded in the early 1900s and made conveyors to move coal and grain for about half a decade. In 1958, Godfrey Marine was born when they introduced the first all aluminum pontoon boat ─ the Sanpan ─ at the World’s Fair in Chicago. This new boat also had upholstery with protective covers, pressure treated decks, convertible canopies, and enclosed outboard motor compartments. After this breakthrough established them as innovative leaders, the company acquired Aqua Patio from Freehold Co. of Sturgis, Michigan. To this day, both the Sanpan and the Aqua Patio remain very popular boats.
