What Is a Walkabout Boat?
So you might be wondering: what exactly defines a walkaround cabin boat? The term describes a fishing boat with a small cabin (also known as a cuddy cabin) that’s surrounded by an unobstructed passway running from bow to stern on both sides. It’s like a center console boat, except instead of just a console, it’s got a cabin. On smaller boats, this cabin will be no bigger than a berth and a head. Some examples will also include lounge areas in the bow and stern.
A walkaround boat has 360 degrees of fishable deck space because of that unobstructed passway. Not only can you cast your line from anywhere on deck without having to navigate around obstacles, but you can also move around the perimeter of the boat as you battle to land your prey.
Walkabout Boats: The Angler’s Choice
This boat, also called walkaround cuddy, is designed with fishing in mind. Expect a compact open cockpit in the rear of the boat along with a livewell, bait well, as well as rod and tackle storage. Many models also include fishing and navigation electronics. Another welcome benefit: The decks are unobstructed, spacious, and easy to clean.
These models are also a great choice for folks who love water sports or just a comfortable, relaxing day on the water. Another common feature is a continuous railing around the boat, which is a great safety bonus for families.
